One candidate will be standing for a two-year term on the FIFA Council at an election to take place at the 41st Ordinary UEFA Congress in Helsinki on 5 April.

Reinhard Grindel (Germany) submitted his candidature for the seat by Thursday's deadline. The additional European member's seat on the FIFA Council has become vacant following the official announcement by Wolfgang Niersbach that he was stepping down with immediate effect from his position on the council.

The UEFA administration submitted the completed eligibility questionnaire for this candidate to FIFA on Friday 6 January, in order for the FIFA Review Committee to carry out the relevant eligibility check.

This is the only candidature that has been received by UEFA within the stipulated deadline for the two-year term of office on the FIFA Council. Five candidates are also standing for four seats with four-year terms.

The Helsinki Congress will also include elections for the UEFA Executive Committee. Eight members will be elected for four-year terms. The deadline for candidatures is Sunday 5 February 2017.
