Valur show their worth

Valur Reykjavik are through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Cup after following up their opening day victory against FC Honka Espoo with a commanding 6-0 defeat of Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag KÍ on Saturday.

Valur face Frankfurt
Valur, who advance from Group A2, will be in the same group as two-time winners 1. FFC Frankfurt in the next round. Honka moved into second place by seeing off ADO Den Haag 1-0 but their defeat by Valur means they cannot finish first. SV Neulengbach took command of Group A3 with a 3-0 win against Mayo FC which means they only need to avoid defeat against Ucziniowski Klub Sportowy GOL on Tuesday to advance. Sportowy are third on goal difference after losing to Scottish side Hibernian LFC 4-1.

Everton impress
In Group A1 England's Everton LFC and Swiss champions FFC Zuchwil 05 will face-off in a winner takes all contest on Tuesday after they both won their second games in Lithuania. Amy Kane got a hat-trick for Mo Marley's side as they beat Glentoran Belfast United 11-0, while Zuchwil defeated mini-tournament hosts Gintra Universitetas 6-0. Group A4 offers a similar situation after SU 1° Dezembro's 2-0 defeat of Cardiff City LFC and LFC Rapide Wezemaal's 2-0 win against ZNK Osijek 2-0 put both teams on six points ahead of their meeting in Croatia.

Thomis treble
ASD CF Bardolino Verona and Athletic Club BFKEB continue to dominate Group A5, the Italian champions winning 5-0 against ŽNK KRKA Novo Mesto and their Spanish counterparts romping to a 16-0 victory against Birkirkara FC ahead of their meeting on Matchday 3. Olympique Lyonnais followed up their 12-0 win against FK Slovan Duslo Sala with another emphatic victory, this time 10-0 against ZFK Skiponjat in Group A6. Elodie Thomis and Shirley Cruz Trana both scored hat-tricks for the French side. Lyon will finish top should they avoid defeat against ZNK SFK 2000 Sarajevo on Tuesday, though the Bosnia-Herzegovnian side will fancy their chances after picking up their second win, 2-0 against FK Slovan Duslo Sala.

Rossiyanka romp
Group A7 will feature another match between two sides with 100 per cent records going into their final game with WFC Rossiyanka - 18-0 winners against FC Dinamo Tbilisi - heading FC Metallist Kharkov, who beat FK Napredak Kruševca 4-2, on goal difference. In Group A8 Belarussian outfit Universitet Vitebsk are the only side with two wins after they beat Pärnu FC 6-0 and need only a draw against FC POAK Thessaloniki to win the section. Alma KTZH will play 1. FC Femina Budapest on Tuesday with the top spot in Group A9 at stake after both sides won for the second match in succession. Budapest defeated FC Narta Chisinau 2-0 but it is Alma who top the group on goal difference after recording a second successive 5-0 victory, this time against Ruslan 93. Neither Alma nor Budapest have conceded a goal after their two matches.

Sparta stroll
AC Sparta Praha were the day's biggest winners as they strolled to a 19-0 victory against AEK Kokkinochovion in Group A10. The Cypriot team at least avoided breaking the record they already hold of the heaviest defeat in the competition's history, 20-0 against Arsenal Kharkiv during the 2005/06 season. Sparta are level on four points with CFF Clujana who defeated Israel's Maccabi Holon FC 3-0 in the day’s other match.
