Olympique Lyonnais goalscorers Wendie Renard and Lara Dickenmann, along with impressive striker Lotta Schelin, were not lost for superlatives after masterminding the 2-0 defeat of 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in Thursday's UEFA Women's Champions League final.

Right-back Renard got Lyon going with the opening goal in the 27th minute, reacting first to poke in the loose ball after a Schelin shot had been saved on the line. Dickenmann, on as a 55th-minute substitute, wrapped up the game – and a first European crown – by expertly dispatching fellow replacement Eugénie Le Sommer's pass as Potsdam went in search of a leveller with five minutes remaining. All three players spoke to UEFA.com after the victory at Craven Cottage.

Wendie Renard
This game was incredible. The coach demanded a lot from us. He asked us to start the game very strongly, and to score as fast as we could – and apart from that he told us to be patient. I think we were patient tonight. Everyone gave their best on the pitch, and we really deserve the win.

We knew there would be a lot of duels, so we had to win as many as possible, especially in midfield and at the back. We did that well. We needed to play as a team, and to be efficient up front. From the few chances we created, we scored twice. That's not too bad.

[Winning this trophy] has been the main objective for the club for a few years now. We missed out last year, Potsdam won last year, and we were crying; this year it's the opposite.

Lara Dickenmann
We have worked all year long for this moment. It was very difficult, there was a lot of pressure as well from the coach, the club and from myself. Now it's a great relief, a lot of joy, we are very happy to have finally managed to win this Champions League. Now we are very, very happy.

I have scored some important goals [this season], and I don't know why ... sometimes it just works like that. I am enjoying it – it does a lot of good for me as a player as well, giving me a lot of confidence. Maybe next year it will be something different.

It was more or less the same goal that we scored against Arsenal [LFC]. Eugénie gave me a good cross, it was the same against Arsenal [in the semi-finals], I wanted to go a bit wider in order to create some more space, I did that, and the ball came in perfectly. I took it with my left foot and then it bounced. Then it was a bit easier for me to put it in. I hit it well, and that's it.

Lotta Schelin
I think it was an incredible match. We did everything we could, we didn't let them create a lot of chances in front of goal, and we scored twice – the last one was totally fantastic. We were solid, and we played really well, even if the game was sometimes quite open.

Maybe we were a bit stressed out at the beginning, maybe it was a little bit of nerves and everything, but at the same time I think we played a good game throughout, all 90 minutes. I can't say anything negative about this game, because we won 2-0, it's a final and we are champions. It's fantastic, I'm so happy.
