  • Salzburg put five past Paris to set up quarter-final with Atlético, who edge out Sevilla
  • Benfica knock out PSV in dramatic shoot-out
  • Rui Pedro scores his seventh of campaign as Porto beat Viitorul
  • Kaj Sierhuis up to competition-leading eight after two in Ajax win
  • Remaining three round of 16 ties take place on Wednesday

Salzburg 5-0 Paris Saint-Germain (Wolf 15, Filip 31 34 61, Mensah 73)
Olivier Filip was Salzburg's hat-trick hero as the first Austrian side to reach this stage followed up their recent play-off elimination of Manchester City by easily dispatching Paris. Salzburg had scored 18 goals in five games already, and last season's runners-up Paris – who had struck 21 in the group stage themselves – were totally outplayed and three down by the time Arnaud Luzayadio received a 36th-minute red card. Mergim Berisha and Hannes Wolf starred along with Filip, and the scoreline could have been more emphatic.

Ajax 3-0 Dynamo Kyiv (Sierhuis 11 87, D de Wit 62)
Ajax maintained their perfect record in this season's competition to book a second straight quarter-final. Kaj Sierhuis's two goals means he is now the competition's leading marksman on eight, having registered in all six of Ajax's matches so far. His first was from winger Anderson Lopez's fine pass and after Dani de Wit headed in Justin Kluivert's corner, Sierhius confirmed victory.

Porto 3-0 Viitorul (Abou 54, Rui Pedro 69, Madi Queta 90+1)
Rui Pedro, who has scored two goals in six Liga outings for Porto's senior side this term, took his 2016/17 UEFA Youth League tally to seven goals as the Dragons eased through.

Highlights: Atletico v Sevilla

Atlético Madrid 3-2 Sevilla (Acosta 13, Salomón 63, Clemente Mues 86; Amo 57p 83p)
Nine-man Sevilla made Atlético work to earn a quarter-final at Salzburg in this all-Spanish tie. Oscar Clemente Mues, just on, won it for the Roijiblancos with a deflected shot four minutes from time.

That came shortly after Sevilla's José María Amo converted his second penalty, awarded after Atlético left-back Manny had been dismissed for fouling Alejandro Pozo in the area. The hosts were leading 1-0 when visiting players José Calderón and Alejandro Viedma were sent off in the space of nine first-half minutes.

Highlights: PSV v Benfica

PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Benfica, 4-5 pens (Piroe 44, João Félix 47)
Benfica's record of never failing to make the last eight of this competition in all four seasons remains intact. Joël Piroe's fine individual goal just before half-time was quickly cancelled out after the break by João Félix as Benfica emegered with new belief, resulting in penalties.

PSV brought on goalkeeper Youri Roulaux for the shoot-out, but he did not need to make a save when Diogo Mendes put Benfica's fourth kick onto the bar. However, when Piroe stepped up to clinch it, Fábio Duarte denied him. That meant sudden death and, after Buta converted, Duarte thwarted Joey Konings to win it for Benfica.
