Draw procedure

  • The 31 teams entering in this round will be joined by the winners of the preliminary round final on 29 June.
  • The 32 teams were divided into three groups (two of ten teams and one of 12 teams). Within the three groups, teams were divided equally into seeded teams and unseeded teams.

  • One group was drawn at a time. A ball was taken from each bowl (seeded and unseeded) and put into a large empty bowl in the middle, where they were shuffled. The first team drawn plays its first match at home.
  • The sides beaten in this round transfer to the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round (the draw for which is also on 19 June).

Draw procedure

  • The four teams entering in this round (i.e. the champions of the associations ranked 16th to 19th, listed below) will be joined by the winners of the 16 first qualifying round ties.
  • The teams were separated into two pots of ten according to their coefficient (the winners of the first qualifying round ties take the coefficients of the seeded club in those ties), with the highest-ranked sides seeded. Balls containing these seeded teams were placed in one bowl, with balls for the unseeded clubs in another.
  • A ball was taken from each bowl and put into a large empty bowl in the middle, where they were shuffled. The first side drawn plays its first match at home, against the second one drawn.
  • The teams beaten in this round transfer to the champions path of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

Draw procedure

  • The four teams entering in this round (the runners-up from the associations ranked 12th to 15th) are separated into two pots of two (seeded and unseeded) according to their coefficient.
  • A ball was taken from each bowl and put into a large empty bowl in the middle, where they were shuffled. The first team drawn plays its first match at home, against the second one drawn.
  • The sides beaten in this round transfer to the main path of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

Clubs' coefficients are now determined EITHER by the sum of all points won in the previous five years OR by the association coefficient over the same period – WHICHEVER IS THE HIGHER (under a new system introduced for 2018/19 onwards).
