Lewandowski, Reus among stars backing Earth Hour

Environment

Robert Lewandowski, Eden Hazard, Andriy Yarmolenko, Marco Reus and Olivier Giroud are among stars scoring a goal for the planet in support of the WWF Earth Hour campaign.

European players support WWF Earth Hour

During Earth Hour, millions of people in over 170 countries will switch off their lights for an hour as a symbol of their commitment to our planet. This year, top European footballers are standing united behind UEFA social responsibility partner WWF to support their Earth Hour 2016 campaign, with a view to raising awareness of environmental issues.

Robert Lewandowski, Eden Hazard, Andriy Yarmolenko, Roberto Soldado and many more have recorded the following message inviting their fans to team up and help protect the planet:

"Switch off the lights for an hour on Saturday 19th March for Earth Hour 2016. Join me and millions of others and score a goal for the planet. Use your power to change climate change. And go beyond the hour."

UEFA has supported the movement since 2009, and this year we are happy to be sharing Earth Hour video messages from players. Managing environmental impacts forms a significant part of the social responsibility and sustainability programme, for both UEFA as an organisation and for the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2016 tournament in France.

To raise awareness about climate change, some players will go one step further and share some intimate information with fans as they respond to the rather tricky question: what do you like to do in the dark? Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud, Breel Embolo, Birkir Bjarnason, Marco Reus and many more put themselves to the test.

Fans can decide to join their favourite players and support Earth Hour by switching off the lights, or by switching on their social power by donating posts, or by simply changing their profile picture. To find out more about Earth Hour, visit the website: www.earthhour.org.

Our actions today will decide what tomorrow will look like for generations to come. Therefore, our future starts today.
