• One of Croatia's greatest players, winger Jarni was capped seven times by Yugoslavia and then 81 times by his home republic after independence (a record until 2006), helping them to 1998 FIFA World Cup bronze when he opened the scoring in the 3-0 quarter-final defeat of Germany.

• In all Jarni played at three World Cups, having been in the 1990 Yugoslavia squad then bowing out for Croatia after Korea/Japan in 2002. He also went to EURO '96, making the quarter-finals.

• At club level Jarni played in Italy, Spain and Greece as well as in his homeland for Hajduk, and also signed for Coventry in 1998 before an immediate switch to Real Madrid without making a debut.

• After leaving Panathinaikos in 2003, Jarni switched codes to futsal, playing for the hugely successful MNK Split under Mato Stanković, who will coach Croatia at UEFA Futsal EURO 2012. Jarni also won two futsal caps, joining a select band of dual-code internationals that includes Brian Laudrup and Ümit Davala.

• Since ending his playing career, Jarni has coached Hajduk and Istra. He has also brought out a line of sportswear and worked as a media pundit.
